Centro Melantone is an association recognized by the Italian State. Centro Melantone is an association recognized by the Italian State. The members of this association are founding shareholders and ordinary members that have the right to a regular financial contribution. Due to this, there are beneficiaries and honorary partners who offer regular financial support.

General Assembly

The General Assembly is held once a year, and is attended by the founding shareholders (Valdese Faculty and CELI) with three representatives, and ordinary and honorary shareholders (with one representative) with rights to vote.

The agenda of the General Assembly includes the financial year report of the Study Center. It nominates the Board of Directors and President.

Board of Directors

The Board is composed of four persons who are appointed for four years. The Board appoints its own internal President, Vice-President, Secretary and Treasurer. The Council Board manages the implementation and organization of the program and duties of the Center. The current Board Members are:

President of the Board of Directors

The President of the Board of Directors legally represents the association before third parties and convokes the General Assembly and meetings with the Board of Directors.

Scientific Committee

The Board of Directors appoints as members of the Scientific Committee, celebrities representing the ecumenical and academic field. The Scientific Committee is a consultancy body of the Board of Directors and is composed of:

Dean of Studies

The Board of Directors assigns a Dean who will be qualified to organize the courses.

The theological academic [...]]]> The academic year in Rome offers a remarkable opportunity to:

• study in a Pontifical University and in the Valdes Faculty of Theology;

The theological academic year in Rome offers theology students the chance to study in the Evangelical Valdese Faculty and the Pontifical University of Rome after an entrance test.

The course is offered yearly and lasts 10 months from September to June of the next year. It is divided into semesters as in the Roman Universities.

Rome is the fulcrum around which the history of churches and Christian archeology revolves. Being able to delve into the origins of Rome, early period of the Jewish community and ancient Rome in the original sites, makes the study of theology even more exciting.

The academic year in Rome features the deep involvement with modern Roman Catholicism, and European Protestantism in its reformed and Lutheran orientation.

It offers the possibility to study ecumenical theology, discover dialog concretely practiced in Rome, and confront oneself spiritually and in practice with the other students during the course and seminars. The academic year furthermore, offers the opportunity to reflect and deepen ecumenical experiences within the group of ecumenical theology students of various religious denominations and nationalities.

Those studying advanced theological courses, or interested in the history of Rome and in meeting Christians of other religious denominations and origins will find the academic year fully satisfying.

The application should contain:

• the reasons for the application;

• a CV with ID photo;

• a presentation of your educational background with an indication of your study and work aims;

• your religious denomination;

• two reference letters from university teachers;

• a copy of at least one report card (with grades) on the Italian language: you need to demonstrate that your knowledge of the Italian language corresponds to having attended at least two semesters in an Italian language course of two hours or a one-semester course of more hours at University, that will allow you to participate actively in the seminar discussions.

In your application letter, you will have to keep in mind that Centro Melantone cannot sustain the total costs, or the schooling taxes, or the total sum of accommodation rentals in Rome. You are strongly advised to procure a subsidy on time, through a scholarship agency (for example in the Villigst agency in Germany or a Schooling Foundation). Over the last few years, the Lutheran World Foundation and the Agency for Deacons have regularly awarded scholarships for the academic courses in Rome. Centro Melantone has a scholarship fund for students from Eastern Europe that will be assigned to students who will receive other forms of support.

The course includes accompanying students and tutoring them about the Roman Universities. You will be able to deepen your experiences and reflect. Because of this, Centro Melantone offers a tutoring program:

• At the start of the winter semester you will be introduced into the world of the University of Rome;

• At the start and end of the academic year there will be ecumenical study excursions;

• Every semester there will be a week-end seminar in Rome on a referral theme;

• Monthly meetings will be held with the candidates for priesthood of the German and Hungarian College;

• Rites organized by the students themselves, will be celebrated regularly;

• We offer sightseeing tours of Rome and suburbs and meetings with interesting figures of the Church;

• The program includes an intensive language course of four weeks in September. Basic knowledge of the Italian language is a requirement before arriving in Rome.

Accommodations

The student quarters of Centro Melantone are located on the second floor of the building in Via Aurelia Antica 391. Most of the theology students will reside there. The 10 en suite rooms equipped with telephones and internet connections, are practical and modern. There is also an excellent common kitchen. Washing machines and dryers are available for a small fee.

• Subsidies for the Pontifical University school taxes;

• The costs for ecumenical study trips will be subsidized for a maximum amount of 100 € per trip;

• The costs for seminars and sightseeing are paid for by Centro Melantone;

• The intensive language course in September is subsidized by one of the best language schools in Rome. Each student will have to contribute 400 €.
